Ivory Coast’s regression in the Fifa/Coca Cola world rankings is the main attraction in the Ivorian sporting media. ‘Supersport’ ironically says that new coach Lamouchi’s side have dropped one place to sixteenth. The author implies half-jokingly that his nomination is linked to the Elephants’ fall. The paper adds that Ivorians failed to hold on to 15th place, where they’ve been for three months, but remain the top-ranked side on the continent. ‘L’Inter’ says the team’s current place is not due to a counter performance but to the Euro preparation matches that involved countries like Greece which have moved ahead of Ivory Coast. ‘L’Expression’ says Africa’s best player of the year Yaya Toure’s participation in the Brazilian World Cup qualifier round against Morocco next Friday is uncertain. The player was rested for their home match against Tanzania for medical care. One of the federation’s officials told journalists that the player is not at his best and they don’t want to take any risk. In this vein, ‘Supersport’ says that the Ivorian team arrived in Morocco yesterday night and quote goal keeper Copa Bary saying: “we don’t fear Morocco, we’ve come here with the firm conviction that we need to win in order to boost our chances in the group”.
