A first half lob from Salomon Kalou and a second half header from Kolo Toure looked to have given victory to Ivory Coast in what will probably be the most difficult match of this World Cup qualifying group, but a late equaliser left things finished in a draw. Ivory Coast still have a strong position in the group but Yaya Toure has been missed and it was sloppy to have let Morocco back into the match twice.
After Kader Keita’s strong performance as a substitute two weeks ago, he started the match in midfield, but looked poor and was replaced by Didier Ya Konan at half time. Igor Lolo looked better, Gosso Gosso played with his usual spirit and Copa Barry made some excellent saves even if he had little chance against Morocco’s egalising penalty.
It’s still early days for new coach Lamouchi, and given ex-coach Francois Zahoui did a pretty good job (winning every single qualifying match himself), Lamouchi has to do a lot to impress and make his mark.
