Ivorian press

Ivory Coast’s fifteenth position in the latest Fifa/ coca-cola world rankings is the main attraction in the Ivorian sporting news. ‘Soir Info’ says that the Elephants have a good chance to qualify for the upcoming Nations Cup as continent’s top-ranked team, while their rivals Senegal struggle on paper, ranked only 15th in Africa. ‘L’Expression’ says the rankings will give Ivory Coast a mental boost, ahead of their second leg qualifier in Dakar in mid October.
‘Supersport’ says that in addition to their 4-2 home win, Lamouchi’s men should understand that both teams are in different classes, when it comes to their performances and structures. Arsenal’s Gervinho corroborates this opinion saying that they have appropriate weapons to defeat Senegal on their home pitch. The Ivorian winger also says he will do his utmost in order to send his side through to the finals. Didier Zokora confides to ‘Fraternite Matin’ ahead of the match. The veteran told the paper that “in any case, it would be difficult for Senegal to score without any retaliation from us. The tough job has been done in Abidjan and now the pressure is on Senegal to counterattack. You can be sure we’ll not just lie back and watch them play.” From this perspective, ‘l’Expression’ says the Ivorian manager could name the squad for Dakar’s expedition today and wonders if there will be any new players or if the former French international will opt for the regular squad. Ivory Coast will play Senegal in their reverse tie on Saturday 13 October.
