Yaya Toure named African player of the year, again

Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure won his second CAF African player of the year title during the award ceremony in Accra, Ghana last night. Kolo’s younger brother finished ahead of two-time winner- Didier Drogba, with Barcelona’s Alexandre Song taking third place. Drogba had a great season as well of course with his massive contribution in Chelsea’s victory in the European Champions League title, but perhaps his departure to China reduced his chances. Yaya was selected by the African football body, mostly because he helped his country reach the continental championship finals lost to Zambia last February and also because he played a key role as City won the English Premier league last season. Yaya and his compatriot Drogba are included in the African top eleven player list released by the African football Confederation. The two men have yet to win the African nations Cup but will have another chance when their side feature in the South African edition next month
